About World Projects PDF Print E-mail

World Projects LogoWorld Projects is the international leader in providing musicians from around the globe with life changing experiences through travel. World Projects was established in 1984 as a company specializing in the organization of international performance tours originally for American and Japanese student music programs.

The enthusiastic response revealed an unmet demand for interaction and exchange between musicians of different cultures and led to the foundation of the Pacific Basin Music Festival of Honolulu, now the most popular band/chorus/orchestra event in the Pacific.

In 1988 WORLD PROJECTS was selected to represent the entertainment division of EXPO '88 in auditioning and touring North American groups to EXPO and around Australia. The development of over forty North American groups greatly expanded recognition of WORLD PROJECTS and established our associate offices in Sydney and Tokyo.

In 2000 WORLD PROJECTS produced the Sydney 2000 Olympic Band for the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics in Sydney, Australia. The Sydney 2000 Olympic Band was comprised of over 2000 band members from all around the world. In 2001 WORLD PROJECTS produced the marching band for the World University Games in China.

In 2004, World Projects invited a new team of officers to lead the company forward including Deborah Lee Gibbs, Australian native, musician and music educator, Kirk Troen, former conductor of US Marine Corps bands and music educator, and Bill Wagner, production manager for the Monterey Jazz Festival.

In 2005, World Projects added a new world class concert hall to its list of festival possibilities. The Kennedy Center became home to the Washington DC Band, Orchestra and Choral Festival following a similar structure to the very successful New York festivals at Carnegie Hall. In 2007, another world class venue was introduced to house the LA International Band and Orchestra Festival, Walt Disney Concert Hall. These annual festivals are all focused around the connection between music education and performance and the importance of interacting with like minded musicians from around the globe.

Most recently, World Projects co-produced the Beijing 2008 Olympic Orchestra. In addition to performing at an Olympic venue in Tianjin and at the Great Wall, this group of over 1800 musicians from various corners of the world was invited to be the first foreign group ever to perform at Tiananmen Square. This event was ‘history in the making’ for World Projects and a moment that will continue to inspire our creative vision.

Knowledge of and good relations with the world's top performing venues, together with experience in setting up joint concerts generating local audiences and providing homestay and accommodations with like-minded host groups provide unparalleled opportunities for lasting cultural awareness and international friendships. Our vast support amongst renowned international music professors and associations such as WASBE and SYTA provides the necessary credibility to set World Projects apart from all other travel companies.

With Music Education as our priority, World Projects provides musicians with life changing performance opportunities and cultural exchange through travel.

Currently, WORLD PROJECTS has offices in the United States, Australia, Japan and Europe. Our corporation headquarters is located in Vallejo, California, USA (San Francisco Bay area).
