EUROPEAN JAZZ PERFORMANCE TOUR - SAMPLE ITINERARY
Zurich.. Montreux Jazz Festival .. Bologna .. Umbria Jazz Festival .. Rome

World Projects can customize a performance tour for your jazz ensemble to various jazz festivals throughout Europe. Europe is home to some of the finest and longest running jazz festivals in the world and festivals run throughout the summer months.

Extend your stay or add additional meals, sightseeing, and local cultural activities to make this tour a unique and unforgettable experience for your students!

 DAY ONE: DEPARTURE FOR ZURICH (meals/movies in-flight)
 

 Morning:Arrive at your departure airport 3 hours prior to take off. Check in your luggage, move through security and onto your departure gate.
 Afternoon:Depart for Zurich (there may be a stop/transfer en route).
 Evening:Overnight en route

 
DAY TWO: ZURICH (D)
 

 Morning:En route
 Afternoon:Arrive into Zurich! Move through immigration and collect your luggage. You will be met by your Tour Manager and driver, who will accompany you for the entire tour. Load the coaches and transfer to the center of Zurich.  You will have some time to stretch your legs and explore this beautiful Swiss city. Late afternoon, check into a local area hotel. Free time to settle in and freshen up.
 Evening:Enjoy a Welcome Dinner as a group in Zurich. Afterwards, return to the hotel and straight to bed after a long day traveling.

 
DAY THREE: ZURICH .. MONTREUX (B,D)
 

 Morning:Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Check out of the hotel, load the coach and begin your journey to Montreux (approx. 2.5 hours + stops).  En route, enjoy a stop in the town of Lauterbrunnen, located in the Swiss Alps. Lauterbrunnen is famous for its waterfalls and was Goethe’s favorite stop in Switzerland because of its natural beauty.
 Afternoon:Lunch on your own in Lauterbrunnen. After lunch, board the coach and continue onto Montreux. Upon arrival into Montreux, transfer and check into a local area hotel.
 Evening:Dinner as a group, and this evening is free to enjoy the Montreux Jazz Festival!

 
DAY FOUR: MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL (B) – Performance #1
 

 Morning:Breakfast as a group at the hotel. This morning enjoy a visit to Chillon Castle – a 13th century castle on the shore of Lake Geneva. The castle has its origins in the 9th century, and its dungeons have on several occasions served as state prisons. 
 Afternoon:Lunch on own in Montreux. Performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival, possibly on the Parc Vernex or Rouvenaz (subject to audition). As well as featured performances in concert halls in Montreux in the evening, the daytime is alive with music all along the coast of Lake Geneva. There are stalls, roaming musicians, and stage performances happening all throughout the day. Afterwards, free time to enjoy the festival.
 Evening:Dinner on own. Free time on own to enjoy the Festival.

 
DAY FIVE: MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL (B) – Performance #2
 
 Morning:Breakfast at the hotel. This morning is entirely free to enjoy Montreux.
 Afternoon:Lunch on own in Montreux. Performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival, possibly on the Parc Vernex or Rouvenaz (subject to audition). Afterwards, free time to enjoy the festival.
 Evening:Dinner on own. Free time on own to enjoy the Festival (tickets to the evening featured concerts are a cost on own – prices vary depending on which show you may wish to see).
 
DAY SIX: MONTREUX .. BOLGONA (B) – Performance #3
 

 Morning: Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Check out of the hotel, board the coach and depart for Bologna, Italy!
 Afternoon:En route, stop for lunch on your own and some time to stretch your legs, possibly in Torino, Italy. Continue onto Bologna. Upon arrival into Bologna, transfer and check into a local area hotel (TBC). Board the coach (with instruments) and transfer to a jazz club (or similar) in Bologna. Upon arrival, possible short rehearsal/sound check on stage.
 Evening: Dinner on own near the jazz club. Performance at a jazz club or similar in Bologna. Afterwards, board the coach and return to the hotel.

 
DAY SEVEN: BOLOGNA .. PERUGIA / UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL (B,D)
 

 Morning:Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Check out of the hotel and load your luggage/instruments onto the coach. Depart on a Guided Tour of Bologna which will include the two main piazzas of Bologna – Piazza Maggiore and Piazza del Nettuno. You will also see the two leaning towers of Bologna and visit the Basilica di San Petronio. 
 Afternoon:Lunch on your own in Bolgona. After lunch, board the coach and depart for Perugia. Upon arrival into Perugia, transfer and check into a local area hotel (TBC). You will have some free time to settle in and freshen up.
 Evening:Dinner as a group in Perugia and free time to enjoy the Umbria Jazz Festival on your own!

 
DAY EIGHT: PERUGIA / UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL (B)
 

 Morning:Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Today will be entirely free for you to enjoy the Umbria Jazz Festival or for independent shopping and sightseeing in Perugia. 
 Afternoon:Lunch on your own and free time in Perugia.
 Evening:Dinner on your own this evening, and the rest of the evening is free to enjoy Perugia and the Umbria Jazz Festival.

 
DAY NINE: PERUGIA / UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL (B) – Performance #4
 

 Morning:Breakfast as a group at the hotel. This morning will be free for you to enjoy the town of Perugia. 
 Afternoon:Lunch on your own in Perugia. Performance at the Giardini Carducci or similar as part of the Umbria Jazz Festival (subject to audition).
 Evening:Dinner on own this evening, and the rest of the evening is free to enjoy the Umbria Jazz Festival. Return to the hotel.

 
DAY TEN: PERUGIA .. ROME (B)
 

 Morning:Breakfast as a group at the hotel. Check out of the hotel, board the coach, and depart for Rome – the capital of Italy (approx. 3 hours plus stops).
 Afternoon:Upon arrival into Rome, you will have time for lunch on your own. After lunch, enjoy a Guided Tour that will pass such sites as the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, Coliseum, and Palatine Hill. Afterwards, enjoy a walk to the famous Trevi Fountain where you can throw a coin in to ensure your safe return to Rome. Late afternoon, transfer and check into a local area hotel. You will have some free time to settle in and freshen up.
 Evening:Dinner on your own in Rome, and the rest of this evening is free.

 
DAY ELEVEN: ROME (B,D) – Performance #5
 

 Morning:Breakfast as a group at the hotel. This morning enjoy a visit to Vatican City. You will have the opportunity to visit St. Peter’s Basilica where you will climb plenty of stairs to reach the cupola for a panoramic view of Rome!
 Afternoon:Lunch on your own in Rome and enjoy some free time for independent shopping and
sightseeing. Late afternoon, return to the hotel and freshen up. Board the coach (with instruments) and transfer to one of Rome’s jazz clubs or similar. Upon arrival, possible short rehearsal/sound check on stage.
 Evening:Farewell Dinner as a group nearby to celebrate your European Performance Tour! Performance at a jazz club or similar in Rome. After the gig, board the coach and return to the hotel.

 
DAY TWELVE: ROME DEPARTURE (B, meals/movies in flight)
 

 Morning:Breakfast at the hotel. Check out of the hotel and depart for Rome International Airport. Upon arrival, check in your luggage, move through security and onto your departure gate. Board the plane and depart Rome

2. Jazz backline and piano/keyboard rental as needed is normally provided.
3. European jazz festivals are typically held between June and August. All festivals require audition
material, and acceptance into festivals is not guaranteed until advised by festival organizers.
