8th Annual New York Wind Band Festival Carnegie Hall March 20 -24, 2010
The evening performance in Carnegie Hall will be one of the highlights of the festival along with an outdoor performance in Central Park (TBC) and our Dinner Cruise along the Hudson River.
ENSEMBLES : High School and College Groups. DURATION: 5 days ACCEPTANCE: A maximum of 6 instrumental ensembles and 2 University Ensembles. Entry by Audition Only. Instrumental Faculty: Dr. William V. Johnson (Artistic Director) Additional faculty to be announced DAY ONE: Saturday, March 20, 2010 – ARRIVE INTO NEW YORK CITY! | Morning: | Groups arriving at one of the area’s airports will be met by a World Projects staff member who will direct you to your coaches. Transfer to the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers (TBC). Groups arriving before the hotel’s check-in time may choose to take a tour of the city this morning. Groups arriving by coach will be met at the hotel by a World Projects staff member, who will assist with check in. | | Afternoon: | Group arrivals. After checking in, groups will have free time to explore the Times Square area. | | Evening: | Dinner on own, or it may be arranged through World Projects. The director will be required to attend the Director’s Orientation Meeting in the hotel. The rest of the evening is free! |
DAY TWO: Sunday, March 21, 2010 – NEW YORK CITY – Outdoor Performance| Morning: | Breakfast on your own in the vicinity of the hotel. There are many delis, restaurants, and coffee shops in the area. This morning, groups will be transported to the outdoor performance venue (most likely the Central Park Bandshell – TBC – weather permitting). | | Afternoon: | Lunch on your own, and the rest of the day is free. World Projects will be happy to arrange optional sightseeing or meals for your group around your workshop or rehearsal schedule. | | Evening: | Dinner on own. You may wish to include a Broadway show in your Festival experience, and tonight is your best opportunity to do just that! |
DAY THREE: Monday, March 22, 2010 – NEW YORK CITY (D) – Workshop | Morning: | Breakfast on your own in the vicinity of the hotel. Enjoy a group workshop with a Festival clinician at the hotel (location TBC) this morning or afternoon. | | Afternoon: | Enjoy your outdoor "pops-style" performance! Return to the hotel. You will have some free time for lunch on own and to explore the Times Square area or enjoy a group sightseeing activity. | | Evening: | Meet in the lobby and load coaches for the Festival Dinner Cruise! Eat, dance to DJ music, and enjoy the sights (including a stunning view of the Statue of Liberty) as you cruise along the Hudson River with other Festival participants. Following the cruise, load coaches and return to the hotel. |
DAY FOUR: Tuesday, March 23, 2010 – NEW YORK CITY – Carnegie Hall Performance | Morning: | Breakfast on your own in the vicinity of the hotel. Groups performing in the afternoon will meet in the lobby of the hotel in performance attire with instruments. Arrive at Carnegie Hall for your group sound check. Following your sound check, store instruments in your warm up room. Lunch on own in the area. | | Afternoon: | Return to Carnegie Hall for the Afternoon Adjudicated Concert in Isaac Stern Auditorium! Groups performing in the evening will have their sound checks in the late afternoon. | | Evening: | Dinner on own in the area. Arrive back at Carnegie Hall for the Evening Showcase Concert in the Isaac Stern Auditorium! Following the concert is the Awards Ceremony. |
DAY FIVE: Wednesday, March 24, 2010 – NEW YORK CITY → HOME | Morning: | Breakfast on own. Most groups will be leaving New York City today. If your schedule allows, try to fit in some last minute sightseeing, shopping, or dining. | | | Thank you for participating in the New York Wind Band Festival! | | | |
