2010 Pacific Basin Music Festival - Instrumental PDF Print E-mail
We invite you to discover the “Aloha Spirit” as we celebrate our silver anniversary in 2010. Whether you are a first-time participant or a returning alumnus, the Pacific Basin Music Festival will be a rewarding and educational experience of a lifetime. Festival activities include an adjudicated group festival performance, full ensemble workshops, and group reading exchanges, as well as clinics, seminars, recreational activities, and many opportunities for international exchange through social functions and music. Exchange opportunities for music educators and group directors are also part of the festival, including a social event for educators.

March 20 - March 27, 2010
ENSEMBLES: High School and College Instrumental Groups.
DURATION: 5 days (optional 7 day package)
ACCEPTANCE: A maximum of 10 instrumental ensembles by audition only

DAY ONE: SATURDAY, MARCH 20, 2010

 Morning:Groups arrive into Honolulu and receive a traditional Hawaiian lei greeting! Transfer to your hotel inWaikiki. A World Projects staff member will meet you at the hotel to assist in check in. Enjoy some free time and lunch on own
 Afternoon:Enjoy some free time.
 Evening: Dinner on own, or it may be arranged through World Projects. The group director and representatives will be invited to attend the Directors’ Orientation Meeting followed by a Directors’ Reception at the Pacific Beach Hotel.

DAY TWO: SUNDAY, MARCH 21, 2010 (B, D) – Rehearsals / Outdoor Performances

 Morning:Breakfast at the hotel or a local restaurant. Group rehearsals will take place at the Pacific Beach Hotel.
 Afternoon:The Ala Moana Concert Series begins this afternoon. Some groups will transfer to the Ala Moana Shopping Center (or similar) for an outdoor performance. Groups not scheduled to perform today will have free time to explore beautifulWaikiki.
 Evening: Return to your hotel to dress for the evening. Attend the Festival Welcome Dinner Dance in the Pacific Beach Hotel Grand Ballroom! Throughout the evening, enjoy a plated dinner, as well as some live traditional Hawaiian music. This will be your opportunity to meet students from all over the Pacific Rim!

DAY THREE: MONDAY, MARCH 22, 2010 (B) – Workshops / Outdoor Performances / Reading Exchanges
 Morning:Breakfast at hotel or at a local restaurant. Enjoy a group workshop with The Ala Moana Concert Series continues through this evening. Groups that did not previously perform here will do so today. Festival Faculty at the Pacific Beach Hotel either this morning or this afternoon.
 Afternoon:

This afternoon, you will have the opportunity to participate in a group reading exchange with an ensemble from another state or country! Groups will play each other’s music in an informal rehearsal setting.

 Evening: Dinner on own, or it may be arranged throughWorld Projects.
DAY FOUR: TUESDAY, MARCH 23, 2010 (B) – Adjudicated Performance

 Morning:Breakfast at hotel or at a local restaurant. Meet at the Pacific Beach Hotel with instruments. Groups will have a sound check in the ballroom.
 Afternoon:Lunch on own. Return to the Pacific Beach Hotel for Adjudicated Performances in the ballroom.
 Evening: Dinner on own, or it may be arranged throughWorld Projects. Adjudicated performances continue this evening in the ballroom of the Pacific Beach Hotel.

DAY FIVE: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24, 2010 (B, L) – Festival Luau / Command Performance Concert

 Morning:Breakfast at hotel or a local restaurant. This morning is free for time on own.
 Afternoon:Meet in the hotel lobby. Transfer to the Andrew’s Amphitheatre (or similar) for the Festival Farewell Luau. Upon arrival, all groups will be assembled for the mass festival photograph. Enjoy a buffet lunch and fun activities (such as Polynesian dancers) during the luau. Following the luau, return to the hotel.
 Evening: Dinner on own. Assemble in the hotel lobby and load coaches. Transfer to the Festival Command Performance Concert at Hawaii Theatre.

DAY SIX: THURSDAY, MARCH 25, 2010 (B)
 
 Morning:Breakfast at hotel or a local restaurant.
 Afternoon:Groups staying five nights will check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport. For those staying seven nights, the day is free to enjoy Honolulu and the island on own or to enjoy one of the optional excursions offered by World Projects (such as the Polynesian Cultural Center, HawaiianWaters Adventure Park, Diamond Head, a dinner cruise along the Waikiki coastline, and whale watching).
 Evening: Free time to enjoy Honolulu.
DAY SEVEN: FRIDAY, MARCH 26, 2010 (B)

 Morning:Breakfast at hotel or a local restaurant.
 Afternoon:The day is entirely free to enjoy Honolulu on own or to enjoy optional excursions.
 Evening: This is your last evening to enjoy the magic of Hawaii!

DAY EIGHT: SATURDAY, MARCH 27, 2010 (B)
 Morning:    Breakfast at hotel or a local restaurant.
 

Groups staying seven nights will be checking out today. Load coaches and say goodbye to this island paradise.
