2014 Washington DC International Music Festival

At the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
April 18-22, 2014

Thank you for considering the Washington DC International Music Festival as your music performance tour in 2014. We have combined our instrumental and choral festivals in Washington DC for 2014, allowing schools the opportunity to present their entire music departments in one phenomenal event.

Being the nation’s capital, sightseeing is plentiful with sites including the White House, Capitol Hill, the many monuments including the Lincoln Memorial, Mount Vernon, boat cruises on the Potomac River, and Smithsonian Museums.

ENSEMBLES: High School and College Instrumental Groups & Choral Groups
DURATION: 5 days
ACCEPTANCE: 3 high school & one university group by audition only

DAY ONE: Friday, April 18,  2014 – ARRIVE INTO WASHINGTON DC!
  
Morning: Groups arriving at one of the area’s airports will be met by a World Projects staff member who will assist with loading the coaches. Transfer to Hotel (TBC). Groups arriving before the hotel’s check-in time may choose to take a tour of the city this morning. Groups arriving by coach will be met at the hotel by a World Projects staff member, who will assist with check-in.
Afternoon: Group arrivals. After checking in, groups will have free time to explore the nation’s capital.
Evening: Dinner on own, or it may be arranged through World Projects. The director will be required to attend the Director’s Orientation Meeting in the hotel. The rest of the evening is free!
DAY TWO: Saturday, April 19, 2014 – WASHINGTON DC – Outdoor Performance
  
Morning: Breakfast on your own in the vicinity of the hotel. This morning, groups will be transported to the outdoor performance venue (possibly the Lincoln, Jefferson or WWII Memorial) – weather permitting.
Afternoon: Enjoy your outdoor performance! Return to the hotel. You will have some free time for lunch on own and to explore the Washington DC area for the remainder of the afternoon and evening. Perhaps
your group would enjoy a tour of the beautiful memorials surrounding the Washington Mall or visit one of the nineteen Smithsonian museums. You may also wish to arrange for a tour of the Capitol, National Archives, or Library of Congress.
Evening: Dinner on your own and the rest of the evening is free.
DAY THREE: Sunday, April 20, 2014 – WASHINGTON DC (D) – Workshop
  
Morning: Breakfast on your own in the vicinity of the hotel. Enjoy a group workshop with a Festival clinician this morning or afternoon.
Afternoon: Lunch on your own, and the rest of the day is free. Perhaps your group would enjoy a tour of the beautiful memorials surrounding the Washington Mall or visit one of the nineteen Smithsonian museums. Tours to the stately Mount Vernon, home of George Washington, and Old Town Alexandria can also be arranged by World Projects.
Evening: Meet in the lobby of the hotel and load coaches. You will transfer to the pier for a dinner cruise on the Potomac River! Enjoy meeting fellow festival participants while viewing the stunning Capital City from a completely different vantage point!

Following the cruise, board coaches and return to the hotel.
DAY FOUR: Monday, April 21, 2014 – WASHINGTON DC – Kennedy Center Performance
  
Morning: Breakfast on your own in the vicinity of the hotel. The morning is free for sightseeing.
Afternoon: Lunch on own. Mid-afternoon, return to the hotel and change into performance attire. Load instruments onto coaches and transfer to the Kennedy Center for your group sound check. Following your sound check, store instruments in your warm up room.
Evening: Dinner on own in the area. Return to the Kennedy Center for the evening adjudicated and showcase concert. Following the concert is the Awards Ceremony.

Pack up your instruments and return to the hotel.
DAY FIVE: Tuesday, April 22, 2014 – WASHINGTON DC  - HOME
  
Morning: Breakfast on your own. Groups will be departing today. If your schedule allows, try to fit in some last minute sightseeing or shopping.

  • Group transfers to non-festival events
